3. Next 79E Truck Components to be Produced. (NEW 5-14-09) |
The next project we will tackle is an assortment of castings for the mounting the springs. The body end spring cap is a high priority. Then we will add other castings, like the quarter elliptic spring band, the center spring cap and seat, the journal box spring cap and anything else we can think to do, so long as the cost of the patterns and cast pieces is a reasonable amount. I am recommending a pattern cost not to exceed $2000 and castings total cost not to exceed about the same. Recommendations and suggestions are welcome. Go to top |
4. New Sideframe Pictures (Updated 5-22-09) |
Preliminary pictures of the new truck sideframe. I will try to get more pictures in daylight and out of the truck when I measure up the casting. Picture 1 Picture 2 - This picture shows the area that holds the rear end of the quarter elliptic spring. This area is a little messy and may need a little cleaning to properly mount the spring. Picture 3 Picture 4 - This picture shows a slight distortion in the right edge about halfway up the picture. I think it is a cosmetic defect typical to sand casting and will not affect the integrity of the part. Picture 5 - The jaw fits over the journal box part way before binding. The jaws are larger at the bottom than at the top - typical of the heat stress introduced due to the horseshoe shape of the pedestal jaw. Picture 6 - This is the other end of the siddeframe. The jaw opening is larger, therefore the frame slides lower onto the journal box before getting binding Picture 7 Picture 8 - This picture shows a closeup of the longitudinal warpage/curvature of an inch or so. Is this a deal killer or can we live with this? Go to top |
